Jim Long

Jim Long is an attorney living in Denver and formerly a Senior Attorney with the Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Education, in the Denver Enforcement Office.  Jim’s undergraduate degree is in English from Creighton University.  He went to law school at the University of Texas School Of Law and completed the Graduate Program at the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School.  Jim served as
an officer in the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corp for 23 years in various assignments from Korea to Germany.  Among other assignments, he served as an assistant professor at the U.S. Military
Academy, West Point (where he taught Constitutional Law and Military Law), as the Center Judge Advocate (Chief Counsel) at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and, and as Command Judge Advocate for the Army’s Medical Command and Legal Advisor to the Surgeon General of the Army.  He followed his military career serving a number of years as litigation counsel at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site before moving to the Office for Civil Rights.  He has served in OCR from 2003 to 2014.  Jim and his wife Nancy, a college teacher, have four children and three wonderful grandchildren.
